The Justin-Siena girls basketball team lost their season opener to former Marin County Athletic League foe Marin Catholic on Saturday night 50-34.
Early on in the game the Braves (0-1) found themselves trailing 10-2, but they ended the first quarter only trailing by a point after going on a 9-2 run.
The second quarter wasn’t as kind to Justin-Siena as they trailed 25-17 at the half.
In the second half Marin Catholic (1-0) pulled away to cruise to the victory.
“Our effort and intensity throughout the game were good,” Justin-Siena coach Andrew Bettencourt said. “We didn’t make enough shots and had a tough time defensively at times. Overall this was a positive step forward from our previous outing and we are excited to keep making progress forward with this group.”
The Braves were led by senior guard Ashlee Whittemore on the night. She had 14 points, grabbed four rebounds, had three steals, and two assists. Lexi Rosenbrand also scored eight points and brought in six rebounds.
Justin-Siena’s next game is Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Terra Linda.
