Errors will always come back to haunt you. But, it also makes the problem worse when you don’t score many runs, either.

That was the case for the Napa Silverados in their 8-2 loss to the San Rafael Pacifics on Wednesday night.

The Silverados (13-16) made five errors in the game, which led to three unearned runs for San Rafael (19-12).

“We didn’t play good baseball,” Napa skipper Tito Fuentes Jr. admitted. “We didn’t take care of the baseball, as you say. We didn’t know where our cut was supposed to be. We didn’t play good baseball.”

In the first, the Pacifics were able to push a run across, but Napa was also able to knot things up when Malvin Nunez singled and scored when Willie Salas hit into a fielder’s choice.

However, the only other run scored in the game for the Silverados came in the sixth inning when J.J. Bissell walked and later scored on a Nick Ultch single.

Napa’s top hitters on the day were Nunez (1-for-2, single, run), Johnny Knight (1-for-2, double), Jordan Garr (1-for-4, single), Josh Montelongo (1-for-4, single), Ultch (1-for-3 single, hit by pitch, RBI), and Salas (0-for-4, RBI).

They also left six runners on base in the game.

“We didn’t have any approach,” Fuentes pointed out. “We were anxious. All we wanted to do was swing. Good pitcher, I tip my hat off to him, but they couldn’t really figure out the (pitch) sequence.”

The Pacifics scored two runs in the fourth, three in the fifth, and two more in the eighth to round out the scoring.

“San Rafael did take advantage of our errors,” Fuentes added. “They frustrated our pitcher. He showed the emotion on the mound, and it seems to be like every time he’s on the mound we do not play our best ball.”

Sean Johnson took the loss. In his start he went seven innings, striking out nine, and walking two. He let six runs to score, three of which were earned. He also threw 114 pitches.

“It wasn’t his fault at all,” Fuentes said of the rough loss Johnson was handed. “We just didn’t execute the plays, and we didn’t hit for him.”

Napa will have an off day Thursday before the two teams will meet up again at Miner Family Field at Napa Valley College again on Friday at 5:05 p.m. Meanwhile, San Rafael will host the Salina Stockade at 6:30 p.m.
