High School Girls Basketball - Justin-Siena Braves

Girls basketball: Justin-Siena drops heartbreaker in season-opener against Terra Linda

In a game that featured a lot of turnovers and sloppy early-season play, the Trojans (1-0) were able to make a few more plays than the Braves and pull the game out in overtime. After a slow start, the Braves got going and were able to end the 1st quarter down 8-6. The Braves were then held scoreless in the 2nd quarter, however, their defense continued to keep them in the game, only giving 3 points up to Terra Linda for an 11-6 halftime score in favor of the Trojans. The Braves came out strong in the 3rd quarter, led by two three-pointers from Lexi Rosenbrand and went on a 10-0 run to take the lead.

The Braves would get up 20-15 late into the 4th quarter, but Terra Linda would go on its own 8-0 run to put them up 3. After a Rosenbrand basket with under a minute to go, Charmaine Griffin made a free throw to tie the game with 9 seconds left. The Trojans, however, would hold the Braves without a field goal in overtime and made a few baskets of their own to take the game.

Tough loss for sure. We just did not make enough plays to win this game,Justin-Siena coach Andy Bettencourt said.We missed a lot of opportunities to score and had some turnovers late that really hurt. We were happy with the defensive effort and intensity and look forward to the opportunity to get back to practice and get better.

The Braves (0-1) were led by Rosenbrand who had 11 points, six rebounds, and three steals. Isabella Wright added six points and brought in 14 rebounds. Alyssa Curtola also added four points, four steals, and three rebounds. Griffin ended the night with three points, five rebounds, and two assists. Rounding out the effort was Karlie Wells, who grabbed eight rebounds on the evening.

Justin-Siena will be back in action on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. when they host Mt. Eden-Hayward in their Foundation game.
