Not doing the little things can add up to a tough loss.

That’s exactly what happened in the Napa High girls basketball team in their 46-37 loss to Santa Rosa.

It was a game where the Grizzles (0-2) allowed plenty of second-chance buckets off of missed rebounds.

“I saw a lack of preparation,” Napa first-year coach Taylor Willis explained. “ A lot of missed shots and opportunities. We struggled on offense.  It’s just a tough game. A winnable game. I think they can run a lot of energy toward the last three minutes and I think that’s the energy we need the whole entire game.”

Santa Rosa (3-1) never trailed in the game, but Napa cut the lead to within five a few times and was unable to get over the hump.

However, Napa did still end the night with two double-digit scores. Sophomore Sofia Tinnon ended the night with 13 points and three rebounds.

“Tin’s a beast,” Willis said of the sophomore forward. “She’s always working hard. She gets a lot of rebounds. She goes up hard.”

Also ending the night in double figures in points was senior guard Anna Ghisletta who had 10 points and two rebounds.

“Anna has really been working on our shots, and she finished as well,” Willis added. “I have a lot of other players to do well. I think it just depends on the night.”

Maizy Armstrong-Brown ended the night with five points and three boards, while Devan Wickersham added four points and four rebounds, Julie Solomon added three points and three rebounds, and Hannah Newman added two points and four rebounds to round out the scoring.

Napa will be back in action on Thursday when they face Lower Lake to begin the Gold Rush Classic tournament at Piner High School in Santa Rosa.

“I’m expecting to win the tournament,” Willis explained. “We need to change we need to turn around and I feel it.”
