There are times in sports where a win isn’t always pretty.

But with that, a win is still a win and that’s what’s rewarding.

That’s exactly what happened in Tuesday’s game that saw the Justin-Siena softball team beat El Molino 10-5.

“The girls are young and they’re going to make mistakes,” Justin-Siena coach Tim Garcia explained.

The scoring started right away for the Braves (3-0). In the bottom half of the first, they were able to score four runs after allowing one in the top half of the inning. After reaching on a single and swiping second base, Jocelyn Stojack later scored on a wild pitch. Then, Abby Maciel came up to the plate and yanked a three-run home run over the fence in left-center that also brought in Paige Horn and Eleanor Meyers. Horn reached on a single and Meyers walked earlier in the inning.

Justin-Siena also pushed three runs across in the bottom of the sixth, which ended up being key. It all started when Paige Horn ripped a line drive to left-center for a solo home run. Then, Meyers and Macial singled and later came home on an Alex Barlas two-RBI single.

In the second, the Braves scored twice more when Meyers drove in Noelle Wright and Camille Thomason who had reached on a single earlier in the frame.

The Braves pushed another run across in the fourth when Stojack doubled and scored on a pair of wild pitches.

In the top half of the third, El Molino (0-1) fought back to get within a run when they pushed three runs across due to a few errors.

Meyers also had a good day in the circle for Justin-Siena as well. In a complete-game effort, she struck out 10 and walked zero on the day. All five runs scored while she was on the mound, but only two of them were earned.

“She’s just a competitor,” Garcia said of his sophomore right-hander. “She’s gonna compete the whole time. That’s just who Eleanor is.”

Justin-Siena will be back in action on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. when they visit Hercules.
