The football season started for all three Napa schools on Friday night. Below is a short recap of each game.

Pitman 55 Napa 7

Napa High had announced earlier in the day that their new mascot going forward will be the Grizzlies, and later on their football opener didn’t go too well for Tom Petithomme in his head coaching debut that took place in Turlock.

Junior Isaiah Newton scored Napa’s lone score of the game when he scored on a 45-yard touchdown scamper with six minutes left in the game, but otherwise the game was all Pitman (1-0) as they led 14-0 after a quarter, 35-0 at the half, and 42-0 after three quarters. The game also saw a running clock second half.

Napa (0-1) has its home opener next Saturday night when they host East Union-Manteca.

Wood 35 Vintage 7

Over in Vacaville Will C.Wood High School opened up their brand new stadium that’s on their campus in grand fashion as they beat Vintage handily.

The Crushers (0-1) had a hard time taking care of the ball on the night as they turned the ball over a total of six times; four of them were interceptions and two were fumbles.

Vintage scored their only touchdown in the game in the second quarter when Jesus Galvin scored from two yards out. Wood (1-0) led 21-7 after a quarter and at the half, but the score was 28-7 after three quarters.

Vintage hosts Acalanes-Lafayette next Friday night in their home opener.

Piedmont 28 Justin-Siena 7

The Braves opened up their season up in Piedmont on Friday night.

After a quarter there was no score; the score was 7-7 at the half, and 21-7 Piedmont after three quarters.

Justin-Siena (0-1) will also have their home opener take place next Friday night when they host Healdsburg.

Slow start for VVAL

The newly-formed Vine Valley Athletic League had a very slow start to the football season on Friday night. The lone team to win was Petaluma who beat Montgomery-Santa Rosa 21-7, but otherwise every other team lost.
