The Justin-Siena girls basketball team won a very close game over St. Vincent de Paul-Petaluma on Thursday night, 42-40.
The Braves (2-1) were down by six points when they entered the fourth due to a tough night shooting, but a 5-0 run and baskets by Ashlee Whittemore and Karlie Wells knotted the contest up at 34.
Later, in the fourth quarter Lexi Rosenbrand brought in the game-winning rebound with .2 seconds left to give Justin-Siena the victory.
“Definitely not our best shooting night, but we found a way to win by executing late and making some plays down the stretch,” Justin-Siena coach Andrew Bettencourt said. “We played with desperation and grit that had been missing for parts of the game in the 4th quarter and our team did a great job of sticking together and continuing to believe in themselves. We know we have work to do, but this was definitely a good win for us to get over a quality opponent on the road.”
Whittemore lead the way with 18 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Rosenbrand added 8 points and 4 rebounds.
