Home runs are often time a killer in baseball.

That was the case for the Napa Silverados in their 11-1 loss to the Vallejo Admirals on Thursday night at Miner Family Field on the Napa Valley College campus.

Napa (24-27) allowed three homers on the night, which is very hard to defend against.

“Hard to defend a few home runs,” Napa skipper Tito Fuentes Jr said.

The scoring for the Admirals (27-24) began in the top of the first when OKoyea Dickson hit a solo home run to left field.

Later, in the fourth inning Dickson hit his second home run of the game, this time a two-run shot again over the fence in left field that brought in Vladimir Gomez who had singled the at-bat before.

“Yeah, he’s a big man,” Fuentes said of Dickson. “He’s been around the block. He’s played with the Dodgers organization. He did well. He just came back from Japan, he did well. He just came back from Mexico, and he’s doing well.”

The Admirals last home run of the game came in the fourth inning when Chris Fornaci hit yet another home run to left field, which was a solo shot.

The Silverados scored their only run of the game in the third when Sean Jackson walked and scored on a Nick Ultch single.

“The key of the game the offense is execution,” the skipper explained. “We just need to execute.”

It was a rough day for starter Billy Filo on the mound. In four innings of work he gave up 11 hits and eight earned runs. He also struck out three and walked three.

“Billy pitched pretty good, he just left some balls up,” Fuentes said of his starting pitcher. “You know, it’s tough to pitch in his ballpark when you leave the ball belt high with the wind.”

Napa will be back in action on Friday night when the visit the Sonoma Stompers at 6:05 p.m. Their next home game won’t be till Saturday when the host the Salina Stockade at 1:05 p.m.
